Weekly Snippets ~ 2nd Week of December

Christmas baking, cold weather, cozy fires, sick kids and a teething baby!  That has been our week — and to be completely honest, it has actually been fairly enjoyable!  I know that sounds horrible to say out loud, but it has been really nice to be together as a family, making memories, reading, resting and slowly preparing for Christmas.  Our boys especially have an exuberant amount of energy which normally I love, but with them being under the weather, they have actually slept in, gone to bed early, rested during the day and were fairly calm for the majority of the week!!!  That meant I had more time in the evenings and early morning to do some of my own stuff that I had been putting off for a while.  They finally appear to be on the mend which I am happy about; It is never fun to see your kids sick.  It just means I will have to turn my Christmas music up a few notches!!

We continued to read with the kids most evenings and are almost completed The Magician’s Nephew, and made our way through another stack of kids pictures books that they would pick out each time we read together.  We managed to get in a few Christmas movies too.  I am so thankful that we have decided to slow down for the month of December.  Sometimes that is exactly what the family needs.

It is so easy to get caught up in the business of daily life, especially at Christmas.  There is always one more stocking stuffer to grab, one more trip to the grocery store, a last minute gift for the teacher you completely forgot about until 1 hour before the class!!!  I absolutely love Christmas; I always have.  But I get so caught up in all of the things I want to accomplish to prepare the “perfect” Christmas memories for my family that it very quickly overshadows the fact that God sent his son Jesus to be the perfect gift for His family!   Having a week where I was forced to slow things down has been a gift from God.  He has used it to remind we why we even celebrate this season at all.

John 1:12-14

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—  children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
